Lynchburg College prepares for another annual Parents and Family Weekend, which will take place Friday, Sept. 15 through Sunday, Sept. 17. Around the campus, families will have chances to meet the professors and attend concerts, sporting events, and induction and recognition ceremonies.
Coordinator of the Parents and Family Weekend, Jan Sigler is enthusiastic about this year’s events, especially the performances.
“The Friday night concerts are just wonderful, and when I talk to parents I always encourage them to try to get here in time Friday night for the wind ensemble and orchestra,” Sigler said.
To start off the weekend, Friday, Sept. 15, families have the chance—with professor approval—to sit in on class lectures and see what their students are being taught.

Parents and Family Weekend not only provides an opportunity for families to visit their loved ones but also the chance to find out how they’ve enjoyed their first month on campus.
“We know and always know there will be lots of trips to Wal-Mart and Target,” Sigler joked, noting that this is also a time for families to help their students restock and explore the area that surrounds LC.
Registration for families officially ended on Sept. 9, but families are able to have walk-in registries during the event on both Friday, Sept. 15 from noon to 7 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 16 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
With the threat of Hurricane Irma bringing bad weather to the area of Lynchburg throughout the week, Sigler stated that it will have little to no effect on Parents and Family Weekend since most activities are indoor-based.
