Lynchburg College’s Men’s Soccer team, which was ranked first in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) preseason poll, started their season off with a win against the Falcons of Pfeiffer University on Friday, Sept. 1 and a tie game against the University of Massachusetts Boston on Sunday, Sept. 3.
The final score of the first game was 1-0. The winning goal for LC came at the beginning of the second half by #2 junior forward Zach Thomas. Thomas was assisted by #22 Austin Kues, a junior defender.
LC took a total of 21 shots during the game against Pfeiffer, while Pfeiffer only took a total of five. Out of those five shots, four were on goal, but Junior Goalkeeper Dylan McLaurin saved all four attempts, holding the Falcons scoreless.

The next game for LC against UMass Boston ended in a 1-1 tie game. This game ended up going into two overtimes, but neither team could get the ball in the net.
Both goals from each team came in the second half. For UMass Boston, it was Marcelo Cunha, a junior back, who scored an unassisted goal, putting his team up 1-0 against LC. Answering Cunhas’ goal was #10 Jon Mackey, a senior forward, who scored for LC by slipping the ball right past the keeper, who was attempting to charge Mackey as he approached the goal.
There were three yellow cards given out by officials during this game, two of which went to UMass Boston and one to LC due to the Thomas’ actions. The total amount of fouls in this match were 15 for UMass Boston and 11 for LC.
These two games set LC Men’s Soccer up with a beginning record of 1-0-1 overall.
The next game(s) for Men’s Soccer will be at the Roanoke College Kick-Off on Saturday, Sept. 9 at Roanoke College against The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) at 3 p.m. followed by a game Sunday, Sept. 10 against Penn State Abington at 12 p.m.
