On Friday, the Muslim Student Association organized a special night out at Al Ryan, a Middle Eastern restaurant located in downtown Lynchburg, to break fast together in the spirit of Ramadan. Sponsored by the Spiritual Life Center, students were brought together through traditional dishes such as Makluba, a spicy layered rice dish, Shawarma, a succulent marinated meat wrap, and other delicious selections. The night was full of laughter, Islamic discourse, and a collective experience of Middle Eastern food.

Muslims have iftar at sunset during Ramadan, a time for spiritual reflection, prayer, and community. For the whole month, Muslims fast from dawn until sunset. They do not take in anything, either food or drink, as a sign of devotion and discipline. It is also the time to strengthen the faith further and spend time reflecting, giving back, giving thanks, and increasing personal faith.

Ramadan Kareem!
