The University of Lynchburg’s nursing program ranked as one of the best-valued undergraduate programs in 2022. The program’s interactivity in learning has placed it at a higher level. Professors and students are more determined and invested in their learning experience.

Clinical Assistant Professor of Nursing Amanda Pribble explained some of the adjustments McMillan has experienced. “It’s out of the 80s,” Pribble said. “Previously, it was very dated. We had a 20-seat classroom and now it’s up to 60.” Pribble also stated that the simulation lab has received a “facelift.” The space has more simulation patients, or manikins so that more students can strengthen their skills at once. McMillan has also received additional supplies to represent a more realistic hospital space.

With the building geared more toward students, there is hope for expanding the program and recruiting more. Current students have become more engaged, and overall, progress has been noted.

Junior nursing student Hannah Lenz-Phillips shared her experience in the new space. “I enjoy the larger classroom and student study spaces,” Lenz-Phillips said. Students have been occupying the space a lot more. The junior also shared an appreciation for the ability to collaborate more with her peers in the building.

However, there was also feedback about what could be done to improve McMillan further. Lenz-Phillips said, “I wish they had expanded the classroom into the lobby,” giving the students more room for learning and adding the potential to have more classrooms.

Overall, feedback has been positive, and students appreciate the new resources geared toward their success.

The McMillan Nursing Building has provided nursing students with advanced technologies and the resources to excel in their learning experiences. The renovations have shown promise and enhanced the University of Lynchburg’s educational reputation, hoping to attract more students.
