The much anticipated movie, “Madame Web”, was released last week, and was met with scathing criticism.
This new installment to the larger Spiderman universe was meant to introduce a character that is capable of connecting the different versions of Spiderman, and yet failed to do so.
Starting with positives for the movie, casting choices for a few of the characters was phenomenal.
Sydney Sweeney and Adam Scott were cast as Julia Carpenter, who is a version of Spider-Woman, and Ben Parker, uncle to the original Spider-Man.
While these were excellent choices for the characters, this is the only good thing the movie did.
The movie fell short on dialogue, which made many of the characters seem insufferable, as well as making the storyline incredibly hard to follow.
The poor dialogue, along with the horrible cuts to the movie, made it seem like a patchwork of things the director just thought was cool to do.
The villain, played by Tahar Rahim, would have been a great villain, yet the dialogue along with the fact that the ADR, automated dialogue replacement, did not match while he was speaking. So every time his mouth moved the audio was a few seconds behind.
What was even more upsetting was Dakota Johnson’s character, Madame Web.
While the actress had high hopes for the movie, her character was possibly the least impressive out of the entire movie.
Meant to help protect three teenage girls from the main villain, Madame Web just felt like a character that was not really needed for the movie.
Her origin story was very odd, as she was made to be a type of magical hero who can see into the future, and overall just made the movie feel clunky.
If you are a fan of bad movies, this one is indeed watchable, but it is encouraged to wait for it to be released for free.
