As the weather gets warmer, students are looking for more things to do, both on and off campus. And while there are a great many organizations planning events to take part in on-campus, like SAB’s Dellchella, and Weekend Programming’s Drive-In Movie Night.
For those who want to spend some time off campus though, there are a lot of great options around town. Here we’ve compiled a list of attractions in multiple areas nearby.
Mizumi & Moon Tea: Located at 1125 Main St, right next to the Lynchburg Community Market and close to multiple free parking sites, Mizumi & Moon Tea is a Japanese Bistro open seven days a week. Mizumi offers Japanese cuisine for pick-up or to eat on the balcony, while Moon Tea serves Boba/Bubble Tea, as well as slushes and other refreshing drinks.
Lynchburg Community Market: The Lynchburg Community Market has been operating since 1783 and has always been tied with the downtown Lynchburg area. The market is partly open-air and enclosed and sells local farm-grown food as well as crafts and art. The market is open on Saturday’s from 7 a.m. – 2 p.m., but the Crafter’s Gallery and Artist Alley are also open on Tuesday-Friday from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Academy Center of the Arts: The Academy is located at 600 Main Street with plenty of parking right across the street from the theater. There are multiple visual and performing arts offered by the Academy for adults as well as children, but they also offer many performances throughout the year. The Academy is a non-profit seeking to expand the cultural values of the Lynchburg area. You can go to the Academy’s website to find out more about their mission and upcoming events.
Jojo Pizza: Jojo’s is owned by a Lynchburg alumni and serves traditional Sicilian Pizza. They have karaoke nights every other Wednesday and frequently feature live music on the weekends.
Venue Cinemas: Venue Cinemas is a discount movie theater that shows movies about a month or so after they’ve been released for $3 showings before 6 p.m. and $4 showings after 6 p.m. The theater sells snacks as well and has eight separate screening rooms. The Venue is located at 901 Lakeside Dr.
