The University of Lynchburg Women’s Soccer Team will be looking for a rebound this week after losing two of their last four matches to conference opponents.

The Hornets are no longer ranked and are searching for some momentum before heading into the last week of their regular season.

Last Saturday, the Hornets lost 1-0 against Bridgewater, who were picked to finish first in the conference this season by the polls at the start of the year.

Senior Ann Doyle said, “Every one of us came to Lynchburg to play in big games where the pressure is high. The expectation when you put on the jersey is that we need to perform at our best every single day.”

The Hornets still have an excellent opportunity to build their NCAA resume with their last two games of the season despite their losing streak.

The first will take place at Hollins University on Wednesday, Oct. 27, followed by the second game on Saturday, Oct. 30, against Christopher Newport University, who is currently undefeated and the third ranked team in the country.

Senior Taylor Smith said, “We never want to lose games during the season but I think with these two losses recently, it has grounded us and allowed for the team to reflect. We are a very good team that can play with anyone in the country on any given day. We have to be this team every single day though.”

The women’s soccer team will look for some momentum by solidifying a spot in the top four in the conference to guarantee one more home game for the senior hornets.

Junior Alyssa Damato said, “We want to win on Wednesday so that the Seniors can have at least one more game on Shellenberger, but I think that we will come together and we can have a lot more than just a couple games left. Playing for Lynchburg we have high expectations and we are going to get everyone’s best shot along the way and we have to be prepared for that.”

The Hornets currently sit second, with 21 points, in the ODAC standings while having played nine of their ten conference games. Lynchburg will be at Hollins Wednesday, Oct. 27, at 4:00 p.m. and at CNU on Saturday, Oct. 30, at 5:00 p.m. to finish the regular season (Retrieved from ODAC.com).
