As the temperature gets colder, students are told to bundle up, but one can only wear so many layers and still fall ill to a cold or a flu that comes with the freezing weather. Luckily, the Health Center is here to help.
According its University of Lynchburg page, general visits to the health center are provided to students without additional charge. At the Health Center, registered nurses and nurse practitioners treat student health problems using by-the-book physician-supervised protocols.
“The Health Center is staffed with Registered Nurses and Nurse Practitioners five days a week, and a physician is here one hour a week,” said Lisa Geier, Clinical Director of the Health Center. “We can treat many common health problems and frequently see patients with respiratory illnesses, ear infections, sinus infections, rashes, and minor injuries. Nurse Practitioners also treat psychological disorders like ADHD, depression, and anxiety.”
If students haven’t received their flu shots yet, the Health Center is also hosting four on-campus flu vaccine clinics this fall.
If students are looking to prevent getting sick on their own, the Health Center also has a list of ‘Tips for Staying Healthy this Flu Season’ on their university page
Not only does the Health Center provide medical care to students, but also as a source for any sort of medical information the students may need.
“The health center is a great resource for students to go to when they are sick, need bloodwork done, or counseling,” said junior southside residential assistant, Elle Benefield. “They are also great when educating people on a variety of things. They helped provide all the information on sexual health for the southside RA event, ‘Sex in the Dark’ that is educating people on sexual health and resources.”
With the health center on campus, students should be ready to combat even the smallest sniffles this coming winter.
