Students are given an outlet to play sports that they are interested in or love through the club sport opportunities at the University of Lynchburg.  For students who are seeking a way to relieve stress or to just have fun being active, club sports is a great path to try!

For many students, club sport teams have become a family.  Third-year women’s club soccer midfielder, Schuyler Rowe insisted, “Club soccer is more than a sport, it is the ability to form close bonds with fellow students and create the family-like atmosphere that Lynchburg is defined by.”

Third-year women’s club soccer defender/midfielder, Natalie Hanno followed Rowe’s lead in saying, “Everyone is really supportive and caring and the team makes practices fun but that is all I can really come up with.”

While providing an awesome opportunity for stress relief and enjoyment, club sports allow for students to maintain or to increase their physical ability and exercise level.  In fact, fourth-year club field hockey player Sasha Terry said, “[Club sports] is a great way to get involved and to get rid of that ‘freshmen 15’ [in body weight].”

Moreover, club sports allows students to interact with other individuals whom they may not interact with on-campus on a regular basis.  “Through playing club field hockey I have been able to meet some wonderful people who have the same love for playing field hockey as I do.  I found one of my closest friends through playing club field hockey. All in all, it gives me a sweet feeling knowing that whether we lose or win a game, at the end of the day, we are still a family,” said Terry.

Club sports are being played year-round at the University of Lynchburg.  The club baseball team plays at High Point University on Oct. 5 and 6. The women’s club soccer team plays at James Madison University on Oct. 5 at 12:00 p.m. and at home against the College of William and Mary at 10 a.m..  The men’s club soccer team plays at home against Virginia Commonwealth University at 12:00 p.m. on Oct. 5 and away at Old Dominion University on Oct. 6 at 10:00 a.m. The women’s club lacrosse team play against North Carolina State University at Elon University at 12:00 p.m. and against Elon University at 2:00 p.m. on Oct. 6.
