The Lynchburg Parks and Recreation will host its first Winter Window Panes event on Feb. 15, 2019, at the Miller Center form 6:00-8:00 p.m.
According to the Lynchburg Parks and Recreation, “The Holidays may be over, but winter is just getting started! Create a painted window frame with a hand lettered phrase and a winter design!”
Lynchburg Parks and Recreations Community Recreation Programmer, Rachel Smith, said, “This is the first time we have done this class. All individuals will receive a lesson in hand lettering. After the lesson, all participants will be able to create their own message. and picture if they would like. Think of farmhouse chic.”
Smith said, “We did hand lettering signs last summer and had a huge crowd. It is a personal interest and I enjoy watching other people learn, and enjoy the art as well.”
According to the Lynchburg Parks and Recreations Facebook page, “Each participant will receive instruction on the basics of hand lettering and a window pane to create their own design. Register by 2/12.”
Smith added, “This event is meant to provide enriching craft work to participants and help cultivate an interest in the art of hand lettering and design. This event also involves the community in learning different art forms.”
According to the Founder, Director, and Curator of Manhattan Arts International, Renee Phillips, said, “There is an increasing amount of scientific evidence that proves art enhances brain function. It has an impact on brain wave patterns and emotions, the nervous system, and can actually raise serotonin levels. Art can change a person’s outlook and the way they experience the world.”
Phillips said, “Research has proven the arts develop neural systems that produce a broad spectrum of benefits ranging from fine motor skills to creativity and improved emotional balance.”
The cost of this event is $15.00 for Lynchburg residents and $20.00 for non-residents.
Smith added, “if you are a college student in the Lynchburg area, put down your college address for the event.”
