The Lynchburg Humane Society is excited to offer the opportunity for friends and family to submit their favorite recipes and pet pictures to create a cookbook called A Pinch of Pet Hair- Drool Worthy Recipes for People and Pets.
The recipes will be sorted into sections in the cookbook which will include: appetizers, salads, breads, casseroles, main dishes, side dishes, desserts, beverages, and pet treats.
Each submission of a recipe costs $15.00. With each recipe, submissions should include a high-resolution photo of a pet, the name of the pet, age, and a brief pet biography.
Julie Barger, Lynchburg Humane Society’s Development Director, said, “The Pinch of Pet Hair cookbook will come in a booklet form. The cookbooks will be for sale, but we have not decided a set price on the cookbooks yet.”
Barger said, “We have not received enough recipes to actually print it, so we are trying to keep it as a running event until we get enough recipes. We want it to be a nice cookbook that has variety and not just a dessert cookbook. We have about twenty recipes currently that have been submitted, but we want to have to more. We are working with some larger groups and businesses to have a place where they can put their recipes in the cookbook as well. We hope that will push us to the edge.”
The Lynchburg Humane Society is also offering a 2019 Calendar Contest. According to the Lynchburg Humane Society website, “The contest is a fundraiser for LHS and also a meaningful way to celebrate your pet while supporting LHS. 100% of the proceeds will be used to help our pets. This is your pet’s chance to shine! Share the contest with your friends and family through social media or with an email to encourage them to vote for your photo! All photo entries are guaranteed a spot on the photo collage page at the beginning of the calendar. We are excited to offer the chance for you to feature your pet’s picture on a special date of your choice for an additional $25. First come, first serve for choice of dates.”
The top six cats and dogs to receive the highest number votes will receive a month spread in the 2019 calendar. The top 12 winners will receive a free calendar. The grand prize winner will receive a canvas portrait of the picture submitted to the contest. Lynchburg Humane Society has raised $6,986 dollars out of $10,000 for their 2019 Calendar Contest.
Submissions of recipes and pet photos for the cookbook and calendar are still being accepted until October 15, 2018. All of the proceeds from the A Pinch of Pet Hair will be going to the Lynchburg Humane Society.
