This past weekend of Feb. 24 and 25, the Lynchburg College men’s baseball team went 3-1, after playing in two double-headers.

On Feb. 24, LC faced off against the College of Mount Saint Vincent and won both games of the double-header, 9-2 and 18-1. The Hornets were led by four seniors: right fielder Will Harris, first baseman Matt Ward, center fielder Brad Hylton and catcher Matthew Cotton. Harris went six for nine and brought in four runs. Ward hit a homer and brought in three runs. Hylton also hit a home run and went three for six bringing in five runners, and Cotton capped it all off with a home run of his own.

On the defensive side, LC pitchers junior Matt Kane and first-year Jason Wood both ended up with scoreless outings.

The next double header for LC on Feb. 25 ended in a split against Penn State Harrisburg. The Hornets won the first game 9-7 and lost the second of the two 5-2. In the first game, LC had a total of 13 hits, with Hylton, Ward and junior infielder Shawn Allen all contributing two runs batted in (RBI).

In the second game, the Hornets had six hits out of 31 chances at bat. Junior shortstop Thomas Powell hit another home run for the Hornets and also had two doubles. Defensively the Hornets had a total of seven strikeouts against Penn St. Harrisburg, three of which came from senior Kyle Jacksic.

The Hornets are now 4-2 overall and will begin conference play against Guilford College away on March 3 and 4 at 1 p.m. both days.
