After months of anticipation, Iron and Ale has finally opened its doors to the public. The American-style restaurant is located in Cornerstone, across from the Greenville “T-Room.”
Iron and Ale is the first of its kind for the Lynchburg area. It is a taproom that boasts over 40 different tap beers, but also offers several wines and cocktails on tap as well. The menu is extensive, including an array of appetizers and entrees that can tickle a multitude of fancies.
The building itself is two stories and includes a bar on both levels. Between the two levels, there are 15 televisions to watch games, including a 106-inch projection screen. The upstairs level offers an outdoor veranda that is sure to be popular during the oncoming warmer months.
The restaurant opened its doors for their soft opening week on Sunday, Jan. 28, and business has flowed steadily since then. Though only a limited menu was offered, it gave patrons a taste of what was to come.
Liberty University alumna Jordan Camdyn commented on the menu: “It’s got some amazing options! I feel like everything is reasonably priced.”
The restaurant promises excellent quality food by having it locally sourced. Using goods provided by local farms and butchers ensures that the food is fresh.
Locally sourcing food is a growing trend with restaurants not only because it provides fresher food, but it helps the local economy as well. It also can help provide seasonal inspiration for menu items.
In an interview with the News and Advance, part-owner Wade Johnson said, “We don’t want a menu so elaborate and big that it’s hard to make a decision … Everything on the menu we want to have a wow factor.”
The restaurant will be open seven days a week, from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and it will stay open until 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays
