Even though I did not grow up in the 80s, movies such as “Back to the Future,” “The Karate Kid,” and “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” have brought me a sense of nostalgia that I wish I could experience. From the neon lights to the big hair, the 80s had so much to offer, with one of the most notable features being arcades. The classic hangout spot for kids and teenagers alike was where major technological advances were made and iconic characters were born.

Due to greater advancements with cellphones and videogames, the classic arcade began to die out. Even though most times I feel like I could not live without my phone, I still have always wished for the opportunity to be brought back to the 80s. And that is exactly what I felt the second I stepped into Super Rad Arcade Bar.

When I stumbled upon Super Rad Arcade Bar in my Google search, I was just looking for something fun to do on a random Thursday night. At first, I didn’t think much of it. I simply thought it was going to be just like any other arcade you could randomly find in a bowling alley.

And how wrong I was! When I showed up to their location on 9th street in downtown Lynchburg, I immediately had that feeling I craved for so long, but so much better. For just $10, you get free, unlimited game play of any and all games, from open to close! Lining every inch of the two-floored building are joystick games, pinball machines and the latest gaming hits.

After playing games for well over an hour, I was starting to get hungry and thought I’d have to stop playing and leave to find food. However I quickly found out that they have a delicious menu of classic childhood meals, from hot dogs, to Tater Tots and even dino nuggets. Even if you’re just a kid at heart, it will for sure be enjoyable. That is why they also offer a wide variety of cocktails that will be able to keep the big kids entertained.

Super Rad Arcade Bar also hosts private events for birthday parties, team bonding, or any other group that’s searching for a good time. With two hours of unlimited games, with no interruptions, you can run around and relive your childhood, or experience a childhood you wish you had.

Even though Super Rad is known for their games, they host so many concerts every weekend. By showcasing local punk rock musicians, you can find a new favorite band, or have an excuse to dance.  I personally have yet to go to a concert, but with Halloween just around the corner, they have some pretty cool bands in their lineup that I’ll be sure to check out.

I really enjoyed my time at the Super Rad Arcade Bar the first time I went, and that is why I’ve been back four times since. It is a great spot to hangout with friends or meet new people!  With so many games available it’s hard not to have a great time.
