LYNCHBURG, Va. – Fresh off a successful weekend at the D3 Showcase in Greensboro, N.C., the No.7 Lynchburg Baseball team took down No. 21 Cortland 12-3 and crushed No. 9 Salisbury 12-1. This offensive power follows the program’s recent sweep of the season’s first ODAC Athlete of the Week honors, led by Quinn Madden and Tyler Kaltreider.
“Most of our players are motivated to get better and win. We don’t spend a lot of time talking about championships, but the way our season ended last year in the Super Regional has left them motivated for the 2026 season,” said Head Coach Travis Beazley.
Tyler Kaltreider continues to be a problem for opposing hitters, assisting in securing the team’s third win of the season against No. 21 Cortland. Despite having the target on his back as the conference’s reigning Pitcher of the Year, the recognition and preseason honors are secondary to the work ethic Kaltreider established during the winter months.
“I have something to prove every year. Last year was last year and that’s over…It’s about mastering my craft, especially during the fall and winter when it’s just you and no one is watching,” he said.
The Hornets’ lineup has been equally strong, led by graduate student Quinn Madden. After returning from a redshirt season, Madden takes particular pride in the team’s depth, which was on display as the Hornets drew 17 walks against Cortland and hammered out 12 hits against Salisbury.
“We have a group of guys from top to bottom who are able to get their job done regardless of their class. Knowing that every single guy brings something special to the table is extremely rare in the college baseball world,” said Madden.
As the Hornets transition back to competing on their home turf, the focus remains on steady growth not only of individuals, but as an entire team. Lynchburg returns to Fox Field this Friday, Feb. 27, to open a three-game series against York (Pa.).
