As the 2025 basketball season approaches, the University of Lynchburg men’s and women’s teams are ready to take the court with aspirations of a championship win.

For the men’s team, head coach Hilliary Scott said the preparation and chemistry has been strong since last year’s run to the ODAC Tournament semifinals.

“There is always room for improvement, especially at this time of the year, but I absolutely love the work ethic of the team thus far. Our guys have had a sense of urgency since we lost in the semifinals last March,” he said.

Having many returning players, including the seniors Piercen Young, Jayson Easton, Eli Thomas, Tyler Buggs and Deondre Ross, Scott expects leadership and experience to be a key strength this season.

“Our expectations are as high as ever, and our goal every year is to cut down nets in Salem the last weekend in February,” said Scott.

Junior guard John Henderson echoed Scott’s excitement, noting the team’s energy and focus during the preseason.

“We’ve got a tougher schedule this year to prepare us for later in the season. Our energy is high, and everyone has bought into the program,” said Henderson.

On the women’s side, head coach Allison Nichols said her team is clicking with each other quickly, as several new faces have been welcomed to the program.

“Our senior class has really stepped up in taking ownership of this team, and they have done a great job of helping new players through the transition and getting them up to speed,” said Nichols.

Senior guard Brooke Cason said she feels confident entering the season, ready to compete and start the season off strong.

“We’ve worked hard and grown a lot as a team, both on and off the court. There’s always a little bit of nerves before the first game, but it’s mostly just excitement to finally compete and show what we’ve been working on,” she said.

Both teams open their season this month: the men tip off on Nov. 5, and the women begin their season Nov. 15, eager to turn months of preparation into a remarkable season.
