Last week was exhausting, to say the least. I know that my mental health took a dive and it was hard for me to stay motivated when it felt like the world was crashing down around me. However, I was able to push through with the help of comfort media that has gotten me through times like these before.
Here are my Four Favorites from this week:
“Fearless (Taylor’s Version)” – Taylor Swift

While asking me to pick a favorite Taylor Swift album is an impossible question to answer, Fearless is definitely near the top of the list.
This album has been one that has gotten me through so many different stages of my life. I remember listening to the song “Fifteen” on my 15th birthday and “Mr. Perfectly Fine” after my first breakup; now, I’m dancing around to “Love Story” in my college house.
That’s the magic of Fearless. It’s heartbreakingly fun and with 26 songs on the album, you will feel seen in at least one of them.
My favorites from this album: “Forever & Always,” “The Other Side of the Door,” “That’s When” and “You’re Not Sorry.”
Monk

As one of my favorite shows of all time, I can’t believe how few people know about Monk. If you like mysteries, murder, detectives or lots of celebrity cameos, you need to watch Monk.
The eight-season long show follows Adrian Monk, an ex-detective turned brilliant private consultant who, after he is unable to solve the murder of his wife, develops obsessive-compulsive disorder.
While it is a bit weird to find comfort in a show about crime, Monk is a show that never fails to bring me comfort.
It’s funny and smart, and without a doubt, you will fall in love with the characters.
Barbie: Princess Charm School

I grew up watching Barbie movies, so of course, as an adult, I still turn to them, especially when I need a break from the world.
On a particularly gloomy day this past week, my housemate and I decided to watch one that we both loved as girls, Barbie: Princess Charm School.
While this isn’t my favorite Barbie movie, rewatching it reminded me of why I loved it so much when I was younger. Filled with fun, magic, suspense and fashion, this movie let me be a little girl again, even if it was only for about 80 minutes.
Finale: The Magic Store – From “The Muppet Movie”

Everyone knows and loves “The Rainbow Connection” song by Kermit the Frog. But as a life-long Muppet fan, I’ve always thought the superior version is actually the reprise at the end of The Muppet Movie (1979).
Every time I hear it, I get chills. That might sound silly; it’s just a group of hand puppets singing, after all. But that’s the real magic of the Muppets. No matter how old we are or how complicated our problems seem, the lessons they sing about still reach us.
This past week, I needed to hear Kermit’s reminder: “Life’s like a movie, write your own ending.” It helped me remember that things are going to be okay because I am okay.
I hope you enjoyed this edition of Four Favorites. Keep up with what I’m watching on Letterboxd, what I’m listening to on Spotify and what I’m reading on Goodreads.
