With the Nationals Championships just around the corner, the Lynchburg beach volleyball team isn’t just dreaming of victory…they are expecting to earn it.

This upcoming weekend, the beach volleyball team will head down to Gulf Shores, Alabama, to compete in the Division III National Championships. With just three years under their belt as a program, the team has used this season to take the next step as a program and has one goal in mind: to become national champions.

Assistant coach Nathan Jensen has helped lead the charge, bringing a competitive mindset and a clear vision to the team.

“The number one goal always is to win the national championship and put ourselves in the position to win the national championship,” Jensen said.

In the weeks leading up to the tournament, the team has focused on playing against top-tier opponents to prepare for the high level of competition they expect to face this weekend.

“We are playing Division One teams to gain experience and the knowledge to play against higher level teams,” said sophomore player Virginia Zalinski.

But sharpening the competitive edge doesn’t begin with game days, it starts in practice. The team has focused practices, team drills, and intense conditioning that all play a role in preparing them both mentally and physically.

“During practice we are doing lots of drills and conditioning to work on the little things, but we aren’t losing focus on the big goal of winning,” said sophomore player Lydia Nelson. “We are preparing our bodies and our minds for what is to come. We know the little things will make the difference when we get to nationals.”

As the team prepares to head south for the tournament, they hope that their preparations will pay off and deliver a championship to Lynchburg.
