As the weather warms and classes are in full force, spring sport athletes are transitioning into the official start of their athletic season. For Lynchburg Men’s Tennis and Lynchburg Women’s Tennis, players are preparing for an exciting next few months.

Ashley Hair, a junior on the women’s team with a 10-9 record for singles play last season, looks forward to building connections with her teammates and being fully present for her last two years as a Hornet.

“I am most excited to get closer as a team throughout the season. We have a lot of fun traveling to away matches, and I am excited to start competing,” Hair said.

While preparing for their opening match on February 15th against Norfolk State, junior Sebastian Sierra said, “One challenge is managing fatigue from balancing training, matches, and academics. What I try to do to manage it is to focus on time management, recovery, and getting enough rest.”

Many student-athletes must learn to stay organized amidst the season’s chaos. As a freshman on the women’s team, Harper Dodd has already gotten ahead of the game by using lists to stay on top of her work.

“One thing that I do to stay organized as the school year begins is make a list of all of my assignments with the dates that they are due so I can check things off as I go. This helps me make sure that I am turning in all of my work on time so I can stay on top of my schoolwork,” said Dodd.

With the long-awaited spring season beginning soon, Lynchburg’s student-athletes are working hard to face and overcome any challenge coming their way. The dedication revealed by both Men’s and Women’s Tennis will generate success this season.
