Dear Hornets,

Welcome to a new semester at the University of Lynchburg! Whether you are joining us for the first time, returning to campus to continue your journey, or beginning the final stretch before graduation, this spring holds great promise for all of us.

For some, this semester begins an exciting chapter filled with new experiences, challenges, and the chance to make life-long friendships. For others, this will be your final semester on campus—a time to reflect on the friendships, growth, and accomplishments that have defined your journey here. To our graduating seniors, we are proud of all you have achieved and look forward to celebrating your success on Shelly in May.

This semester is pivotal in our university’s history as we navigate the SACSCOC recommendations and focus on strengthening our institution’s foundation. While this period brings uncertainty, one thing remains steadfast: the commitment of our faculty and staff to delivering a high-quality education that empowers you to thrive. We are leaning in to ensure all of your experiences are undeniably life-changing. Your resilience and dedication inspire us to continue building an environment where you can grow academically, professionally, and personally.

As we embark on this new semester, it’s also a time to reflect on the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., whose vision of equity, justice, and community remains as vital as ever. As our campus prepares to celebrate his legacy, let us draw inspiration from his enduring words and work to create a campus environment that uplifts every voice and values every story.

Nationally, the news landscape is one of complexity and change, with a new administration in office, growing ideological divisions, and the Supreme Court’s decision on TikTok raising questions about technology, democracy, and community. These are not just headlines; they are moments that challenge us to think critically and engage thoughtfully. At The Critograph, we are committed to providing a platform for these conversations, ensuring that our campus remains informed, engaged, and connected.

This semester, I am thrilled to introduce exciting updates for The Critograph. Our new tagline, “Your Voice, Your Stories, Your Critograph,” embodies our dedication to serving as your trusted source for news, ideas, and community connections. We are also excited to welcome our new Editor-in-Chief, Jacob Clavijo, whose vision and leadership will guide us through the spring.  Jacob’s writing style reflects a thoughtful balance of depth and clarity, consistently offering readers insightful perspectives on complex political events and their broader implications. His ability to weave diverse voices and community insights into his articles, such as his exploration of unity in a divided nation, exemplifies the kind of journalism that resonates with our campus and beyond. Under Jacob’s leadership, I am confident that The Critograph will continue to uphold its tradition of delivering engaging, impactful stories that capture the pulse of our times.

In addition, The Critograph is hiring! We invite you to join our team if you’re interested in reporting, photography, editing, or podcasting. This is a fantastic opportunity to develop skills, build your portfolio, and contribute to our vibrant campus community.

This semester also brings a temporary transition as I step into a new role as a columnist while Dr. Mike takes a well-deserved sabbatical. While his Nerd Factor column will be missed, I am excited to launch Travel with Me, a new series exploring global cultures and connections. I hope it will spark curiosity and offer fresh perspectives on the world beyond our campus.

We will be back to our regular publication schedule next week. As always, it’s a great day to be a Hornet!
