Growing up, I made the trip to Lynchburg countless times to visit my grandparents, who live there. When I came to the University of Lynchburg as a student, I felt as though I was making one of those two-hour-long trips again, surrounded by places and things I have known my whole life. While I am not a native “Lynchburger,” I have come to have some favorite spots throughout my time spent here.

Givens and Little Dickens Bookstore

Givens and Little Dickens Bookstore is a place that I have memories of as far back as kindergarten. With a mixture of used and new books, toys for kids and novelty items for adults, Givens and Little Dickens Bookstore has something for every book lover, regardless of age. While I might be shopping for a psychological thriller now instead of a children’s picture book, Givens is a place that I will always recommend for ‘Lynchburgers’ and visitors alike!

Riverview Vinyl

Located downtown, Riverview Vinyl is a small, independent record store. This hidden gem is a great place to find reasonably priced records and space to find new music or attend some live music events, like their concert featuring bands 2toaroom and A Doberman’s Shadow on Halloween night. Riverview Vinyl is a ‘must go’ for me in Lynchburg because they have something for everyone, from well-known artists from the ‘60s to modern indie artists, from records to CDs. It’s one of those places where people can come and just hang out, talk about, and listen to music.

Black Water Creek Trails

Black Water Creek Trails are a favorite of mine, even as someone who isn’t a “nature person.” With multiple trails of varying difficulties and lengths, Blackwater Creek Trails has so many unique and beautiful spots that you will always find something new to enjoy, no matter how many times you have been. When my boyfriend visits, our favorite part of the trails is Hollins Mill Park, specifically the waterfall and Hollins Mill Tunnel, an old railroad tunnel that has now been converted into a walking/biking path.

The White Hart

Located in the heart of downtown, White Hart is known as “Lynchburg’s Living Room” for a reason. While the city does have an abundance of coffee shops, what makes The White Hart so special is the inviting and unique atmosphere that exists within it. Their menu is constantly updating and evolving while still keeping the beloved items that customers love. They are also known for hosting open mic nights or having live music performances. The White Hart will always be a place I drag my friends to, a favorite study spot, or a spot that makes me feel at home, even when I’m far away.
