The University of Lynchburg’s Homecoming and Family Weekend celebrations created a vibrant atmosphere energizing student-athletes. Beyond the excitement, it offered them a much-needed pause from their demanding schedules, balancing academic responsibilities and athletic commitments.
Homecoming is more than just a festive tradition for Lynchburg athletes—it’s an opportunity to recharge, connect with supporters, and experience the collective spirit that unites the campus and community.
Senior catcher on the Lynchburg Softball team, Carly Hudnall appreciated the chance to play in their annual alumni game and connect with former players.
“Saturday morning, our current team competed against former players and had the opportunity to hear about their lives since college. This was a great chance to make new connections, get life advice, and hear how those former players paved the way for current teams,” said Hudnall.
Having their match against Washington & Lee during the homecoming tailgate this past Saturday, Lynchburg Men’s Soccer ended the game in a 1-1 tie and joined the festivities afterward. Cesar Acosta, a midfielder for the team, recounts his time at the tailgate.
“I’d say my favorite part of homecoming was seeing everyone come together as a Lynchburg hornet, whether it was an alumni or a student at the tailgate,” he said.

After completing midterms and being in the middle of conference play, student-athletes look forward to homecoming as it enables them to relax and catch up with their peers. For the senior setter on Lynchburg Women’s Volleyball, Mya Green sees homecoming as the perfect opportunity to enjoy her time off and socialize.
“What I enjoy most about homecoming is getting to see all of my friends. It’s a time when we can all come together outside of the classroom and just hangout,” said Green.
Being a positive environment for fun and athletics, this year’s homecoming was a success for student-athletes here on campus.
