Intramural sports at the University of Lynchburg offer a dynamic solution. They allow students to engage in fun, competitive physical activities while building strong campus communities.
For the fall semester, Lynchburg’s recreational sports offers flag football, tennis, sand volleyball, soccer, and kickball intramural leagues. Sophomore Lydia Nelson, who played for the flag football league last year, has decided to join the kickball team this fall and compete there.
“I like how competitive it gets no matter what sport is being played. I think that comes from being a school of competitive athletes, so the drive to win runs deep. It’s hilarious how serious a game of flag football or kickball can get through,” she said.
Playing on a team means making friends and discovering how they work best under pressure. Jack Pitts, a sophomore at the University, appreciates those moments of getting to know the people he competes with.
“I have played multiple intramural sports but with different groups of people. I never started off by knowing everyone on my team, but I have enjoyed getting to know them as the games progressed,” said Pitts.
Finding an intramural sport on campus can seem daunting, but sophomore Kaitlyn Regan found it easy to join and socialize with other students interested in the same thing.
“I found out about intramural sports from a friend during my freshman year, and I was interested in joining to destress, hang out with friends, and have fun playing a low-stakes sport,” said Regan.
These students, whether on the field, in the sand, or on the court, enjoy the competitive and entertaining environment that intramural sports offer to take their minds off daily stressors and bond with new friends.
