As all of the hard work put in over the semester reaches a finale, student-athletes at the University of Lynchburg prepare for exam season. Being in season while final exams take place means these students must take extra steps in order to stay on top of their work.
For instance, senior goalie Kayla Brady on the Lynchburg field hockey and women’s lacrosse teams, finds that the best way to prepare is through time management. “When being a student athlete, it is essential to have great time management. Possessing this skill produces successful results when it comes to the balance between school and athletics,” she said.

Agreeing with Brady, sophomore Lynchburg cross country runner Chasen Hunt also works hard to get a head start on his finals.
“Before the end of the semester, I just know that it is going to be rough. If I prepare for the exams and get my work done, then there is little to no added stress when I need to perform on both an academic and athletic level,” said Hunt.

With the current freshmen finishing off their first year of college at the University of Lynchburg, there is much to be learned from them as incoming students begin to trickle in. Jessica Strickland, current freshman infielder for the Lynchburg softball team, warns against procrastination to the students entering in the fall.
“Once you have a general idea of what the exam will be like, start studying. One method that works well for me is the Pomodoro method, where you study for 25 minutes, take a five minute break, and repeat as many times as you want,” she said.
Ending the semester with success on final exams is the ideal outcome; and Lynchburg student-athletes are pursuing it with a determined mindset and tools to best help them get there.
