The second installment to the rebooted “Dune” franchise was recently released, and is exactly what the franchise needed.
“Dune Part 2” takes place immediately after the first one, with much of the same cast, yet with notable additions of Austin Butler and Florence Pugh.
The story takes place mainly on Arrakis, with Timothy Chalamet’s character, Paul, learning to survive, thrive and protect his new homeworld.
The plot thickens however, as Paul attempts to not play into a false prophecy, wanting to help his adopted people truthfully rather than leading them with a lie.
While Paul does eventually lean into this prophecy, it plays very well with the story and sets up a lot for the future installments.
Austin Butler’s character, Feyd-Rautha, was also a wonderful addition, albeit short lived.
This character was very much the psychopath villain that fans love, and was unpredictable in his actions and motivations.
The special effects for the movie also played a huge role, making each homeworld unique in design.
This was especially true of the Harkonnen homeworld, which existed under a black sun then essentially absorbed any color, making everything and everyone a black-and-white.
The fight scenes for the movie were extremely fast paced, yet added to the intensity of the movie.
The only real issue of the movie is that it often feels like a lot and nothing happens at the same time, yet this is most likely due to the length of the movie as well as the low-toned conversations the characters have with each other often.
Regardless, “Dune: Part 2” was a wonderful movie, especially for any sci-fi fans, rich in story and character development.
