With spring in full bloom, the Lynchburg Humane Society looks forward to several adoption events and new volunteers.

The organization celebrated their annual Best Friend Ball last weekend. At this event, the focus was fundraising for medical supplies. The Lynchburg Humane Society is the only place that is equipped for medical emergencies, so they receive many stray animals in the city.

Claire LeFew, development and communications manager, said, “We have a wishlist that is constantly being updated with things that we need. We take all kinds of help because we do so much here, and that includes medical supplies, treats, money and time.”

The Humane Society currently has over 397 pets awaiting adoption. LeFew expects that number to fluctuate due to kitten season, especially in their miniature kitten hospital. In the hospital, kittens are bottle fed and taken care of before being put into foster care.

There are plenty of upcoming events for adoption or for volunteering. Not only is there Cat Pilates and Cat Yoga, but there are also kitten and puppy adoption events.

LeFew also hopes that more community members will join  the Dog Walking Volunteer Program. “All volunteers need to do is fill out a consent form. Their first day here would be a tour. If a student wants to join the Dog Walking Program, then they need to have the Fear Free class that we have.”
