 Critograph Advisor, Dr. Ghislaine Lewis

The Critograph kicks off the 2022- 2023 school year at the University of Lynchburg with its 107th volume and its third year as a solely online publication.

I also step into my sixth year as the newspaper’s advisor and I am so excited about the multitude of stories that our staff will uncover and tell this year.

The energy across our community is electric as we embrace our new normal.

As the student voice of the University of Lynchburg, we want our storytelling to be a collaborative effort as we celebrate the university’s triumphs and highlight its challenges as we work toward equitable and inclusive solutions.

We are evolving in our coverage, in how we reach our audience and in the way we structure our newsroom. We want to be the go-to platform for news in our community.

Our team this year is led by the incomparable Alyssa Wilson who is a Communication Studies major with an emphasis in journalism. Wilson also serves as a Bonner Leader and is the intern for Share Greater Lynchburg. I have seen her blossom under the tutelage of our faculty and staff and walk in her purpose through the nurturing guidance of the Center for Community Engagement.

In the newsroom we believe that it takes diverse perspectives to showcase our university and as a result, our staff comes from majors across our campus community. I am confident that with Wilson and her team, the newsroom is in good hands.

As we lean into President Alison Morrison-Shetlar’s pillars of leadership, diversity and inclusion and innovation, we hope you will see yourselves in our storytelling.

We also invite you to send us your story ideas and your feedback, write guest articles and if so inclined, join our staff.

Cheers to a safe and successful school year!
