On March 9, 2022, the University of Lynchburg’s Academic Achievement Center put together the Major Madness Fair to encourage students to explore and learn about the range of majors offered on campus.

Dr. DuAnn Kremer, department chair of Exercise Physiology said, “I want to provide information about exercise physiology to interested students. If they want to pursue a career in health, fitness, and performance, we are the major for them. These majors can work at YMCAs, fitness facilities, corporate wellness, cardiac rehabilitation, and strength and conditioning.”

Kremer decided to bring Leigh-Anne McCormick, a senior and an exercise physiology major, to expound on her experiences in the program.

McCormick said, “I came into school knowing that I wanted to do physical therapy, and exercise physiology is the major that will best prepare me for physical therapy school.”

She also discussed her postgraduation plans. McCormick said, “I am going to physical therapy school at the University of Lynchburg after I graduate to prepare myself to become a physical therapist.”

Dr. Danny Hedrick, chair of the Sports Management Department said, “We are about the business of sports, and we focus on the sports industry which is an $83 billion industry. This major will increase your marketability if you are interested in working in an $83 billion industry.”

Dr. Lindsay Pieper, a professor of sports management explained the internship opportunities available to students, including  working  for the Lynchburg Hillcats and various college athletic departments at the university.

Louis Donato, the Sydnor Performance Hall Manager who is on staff with the music department, said, “We have one of the best music education programs locally and possibly even throughout the state of Virginia. I was actually a Music Education Major here, and I was passionate enough that it made me to stay.”

Other departments that attended the Major Madness Fair include the English Department, Theater, Museum Studies, Africana Studies, History, Religious Studies, and more.
