The University of Lynchburg will be a bevy of activity and events in the second half of the semester.
On Mar. 21, 2022, the University of Lynchburg’s Dr. Robert L. Canida and the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion organized the Land Acknowledgement Announcement. In an email sent out to the whole school, Dr. Canida stated, “Today at 2 pm, at the LOVE sculpture, you are cordially invited to attend the University’s official announcement of our Land Acknowledgement statement. This event will publicly acknowledge the Monacan Indian Nation as the traditional steward of the land on which we currently, LIVE, LEARN, and LOVE!”
On Mar. 22, 2022, the Flynn Multicultural Center organized an event that highlights the film Adelante Mujeres. In an email sent out to the whole school, Flynn Multicultural Center and Adrienna Vest-Turner stated, “Happy Women’s History Month! Join the Hispanic Student Society tomorrow at 5:10 PM for the showing of Dolores. This film will focus on the life and activism of the Chicana labor union, activist Dolores Huerta. We hope to see you there! Email FMC@lynchburg.edu for questions.” The event will be happening in Hopwood Auditorium.
On Mar. 23, 2022, President of Sigma Sigma Sigma (Tri Sigma) Julianna Cameron will be holding an event that talks about the Parkview Community Mission at 7:00 pm in Hopwood Auditorium. In an email sent out to the whole school, Cameron stated, “Tri Sigma will be holding a seminar on food insecurity, how it affects the student community, and how we can help. We have a guest speaker, Julie Farley from the Parkview Community Mission, and she will be leading the discussion on it.”
On Mar. 24, 2022, the University of Lynchburg’s Student Activities Board (SAB) will be holding the Spring Festival. The Spring Festival will begin in the Westroom at 5:00 pm and it will end at 7:00 pm. According to Lockamy, the event consists of the following locations and activities: “Westroom: Donut Decorating. Commons: Polaroid Photobooth. Genworth: Draw the Picture, Life-saving Crew, and Guessing Jar. Pete’s Place: Put a photo on a mug. Lobby: Raffle and Mini bowling. Plaza: Cornhole/Giant Solo Cup.”
On Mar. 25, 2022, Director of Alumni Relations Heather Garnett is organizing a Cocktail Party with Alumni. In an email sent out to the whole school, Garnett extended the school an invitation, “You’re Invited to a Cocktail Party! The Alumni Office and the Lynchburg Alumni Association Board Members are hosting a Senior and Junior Cocktail Party (lots of delicious food and adult beverages). The Board members want to meet you! There will be Alumni Board members from the classes of 2021 to 1969 with careers in higher education, health fields, financial institutions, and more. Join us to meet the Board members and create Lynchburg connections! Eat a light dinner so you can enjoy: Fruit, Artisan cheese, Shrimp, Brie and Raspberry in Phyllo Cups, House made Crab Dip, Chicken Tenders, Barbecue Meatballs, and Deluxe Miniature Cheesecakes. Please bring a valid photo ID (Driver’s License, not school ID) to the event. If you are 21 or older, you will be given two free drink tickets.”
Lastly, on Mar. 26, 2022, the Outdoor Leadership Program (OLP) will have a backpacking trip. Taylor Deskins sent out an email to the whole school that invited everyone on this trip, stating, “March 26- 27th – Join the Outdoor Leadership Program this weekend for a backpacking trip in the priest wilderness area. This trip is sure to be a great time, no experience is necessary. All equipment, food, transportation is provided. Cost is $5. Sign Up Link.”
