The University of Lynchburg women’s lacrosse team is looking to bounce back from the 2021 season. The Hornets earned 10 wins last season which was the first time since 2016 where the ladies finished the year 12-6.

The 2021 season had many highs including defeating nationally ranked Mary Washington in double overtime. However, the ladies ultimately fell short in the ODAC tournament to a very good Washington and Lee team who was ranked highly in the country at the time of competition.

Junior Lindsey Barrington said, “We had a lot to be proud of last year but I think all the returners have a little hunger to accomplish more this year and I believe that is possible with all the talent coming back as well as the talent coming in.”

The Hornets will have a very challenging year coming up facing teams like York College and Washington and Lee who are both nationally ranked.

Barrington continued, “I believe that what will really help us be successful this year is the team atmosphere that we have because we had success last year as a team off the field and I believe that this will follow over to this year.”

The Hornets will open the season with a road contest against Averett, a team that the Hornets beat last year.

Sophomore Arianna Perez said, “I am excited to learn from the upperclassmen. I missed the fall but joining in the spring I feel like the seniors have really helped me get into the flow of things.”

The Stafford native joins the team after winning an ODAC title last year with the women’s swim team.

Perez said, “Ringing the bell last year was an incredible memory and I enjoyed my time with the swim team but now that I have done it once I want to do it again and I feel that there are a lot of similarities between the teams and all of them are positive.”

The Hornets will start the year at Averett on February 19th followed up with the home opener against Southern Virginia on March 5th then the Hornets will welcome the 16th ranked York College Spartans on March 11.
