On Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2022, the University of Lynchburg held Organization Tabling that included representatives from the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) and representatives from the National Association of Latino Fraternal Organizations (NALFO) outside the dining hall on the third floor of the Drysdale Student Center.
Shadaya Cooper, a super senior and President of Alpha Psi Lambda, said, “I found that there was a significant amount of underrepresentation of Hispanic and Latino students. I really identified with the mission of Alpha Psi Lambda, ‘to promote continued personal and collective growth of our membership, success, and unity, through education, leadership, cultural awareness, and community service.’”
Cooper attended this event “to provide visualization and representation for our cultural Greek organization.”
Cooper encouraged other people to join her organization. She said, “We value diversity, and we are dedicated to the personal and professional growth of our members. One of our values is family, and we embody that within our chapter.”
Tyrone Williamson, a senior and president of the Sigma Phi Chapter, said, “I decided to join this organization for the brotherhood after I came out of the military. After the military, I sought the same brotherhood that I had before and this organization gave it to me.”
Williamson hopes to recruit like-minded individuals that want to do more for their community and elevate themselves. He said, “We want to improve our leaders and make them better citizens for their communities.
Williamson thinks people should join his organization for numerous reasons. He said,“They should join because they want to be of service to others and help others by providing service and advocacy for their communities.”
Another organization that was present at the event was Epsilon Kappa Zeta.
Barbara McNeil, secretary for Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc., Epsilon Kappa Zeta, said, “For our chapter, we are community service oriented as we work in our immediate community.”
