The University of Lynchburg Athletic Department will have a new voice and director of digital media this fall.
TJ Wegnert will replace Joe Hutzler who left the university at the end of 2020-2021 academic school year to pursue a new opportunity.
Wegnert comes to Lynchburg from Longwood University. At Longwood, Wengert was the play-by-play voice for Lancer’s eight sports on the Big South Network and gathered hands-on experience with the technical side of broadcasting. Wengert also edited The Rotunda, Longwood’s student newspaper, and served as sports director for WMLU-FM radio. The University of Lynchburg student athletes are very excited to welcome the new Voice of the Hornets.
Wegnert said, “Joe built a machine here, the best in the conference and I am looking to build upon all the success he made over six years.”
Men’s swimming junior, Kellen Campbell said, “Although it is sad to see Joe leave, I am super excited to get a chance to see what TJ and his crew can do not only for the big sports but continue to carry the tradition Joe started for the smaller sports.
Swimming was added during Hutzer’s tenure and he was able to help put the team on the map with live streaming that brought in recruits from all over the country including states such as Florida, Massachusetts and Texas.
LHSN, Lynchburg Hornets Sports Network, is one of the premier streaming platforms across Division 3 Athletics covering all of Lynchburg’s sports from Soccer and Lacrosse to Equestrian and Tennis.
Wengert will be tasked with the job of covering all twenty-one sports that the Lynchburg Athletic Department has as well as covering other campus events including Homecoming and Give Day.
