On Sunday, Sept. 6, the Sigma Nu fraternity hosted “A Night at the Snuvies” and showed “42: The Jackie Robinson Story” in honor of Chadwick Boseman. The event was held in accordance with Covid-19 safety guidelines, including sanitization, masks, social distancing, and temperature checks, during the event. Additionally, in order to accommodate properly, they had an RSVP system set up. The screening featured a free raffle that was joined by attendance, with the prizes being an Amazon gift card, a Regal Theater Gift Card, a speaker, and a TV.
Larry Hamlett, a member of Sigma Nu, attended the event and said while “the turnout was not as great … those that did come out enjoyed and had a great time.” He believed that “the event will only continue to grow … and improve with each one.” He also confirmed that there “are plans to do the event again in the future.”
Malik Nowlin, another member of Sigma Nu, stated that, “[I]t went well! [Everyone] had a great time hanging out and I enjoyed being able to be back on campus.” This event was held the night before the changes to Alert level 2 would be put into place, which would allow for gatherings under strict regulation to occur, or for students to return to in-person classes. With COVID-19 cases dropping on campus, the event was a memorial as well as a celebration to those who attended.
Sena Nomura, an additional member of Sigma Nu, also added that the “homage to Chadwick Bozemon … was lit.”
Sigma Nu is not only holding events for the campus, but also for charity as well. Watch out for the Car Bash hosted by Sigma Nu and Phi Kappa Tau on Oct. 3. Half the profits of the event will be donated to SeriousFun Children’s Network.
