On Sunday, Nov. 10, the University of Lynchburg’s Women’s Club Soccer team ended their final fall season game by defeating Mary Washington University’s team by a score of 2-0.  Overall, the team won six out of their ten games last year! The team has been constantly improving within the last few years as more students of the University have been wanting to join the squad.

Second-year student and defender Maura Kloski noted, “This team is amazing, the girls are so fun and the coaches might be even funnier. The past two seasons we have grown so much as a team. We are ranked in the top 50 of all club sports, D3 to D1, on the East coast. I am so excited to see how this season progresses, and continue to bond with the girls!”

While being able to compete with other top programs on the east coast, the team has come together as a closer family throughout this past fall season.  “This semester our team is focusing on trying to build off the fall semester and keep that momentum going. Our goal has always been to compete at a higher level and we are finally at a point where we can push past being uncomfortable and really go after what we want. The success the club team has had so far has been because of our great coaching staff that volunteer their time and the bond and friendship that our team has been able to build these past couple of years,” said second-year student and secretary/social media representative for the team, Mallory Yowell.

“Our coaches are the best in the world and they have helped us grow so much this year. This season has already gotten off to a great start, we have had a great turnout to practices so in our upcoming games, we are going to be super competitive,” insisted second-year student Ciara Diederich.

Please come out to support your fellow Hornets at home on Sunday, Feb. 9 at 12 p.m. against Mary Washington University (the same opponents they defeated in Nov.) at home!  The competition should be fierce, and – hopefully – our Hornet team will come out to “sting” the Eagles of Mary Washington!
