It is the last few days before break. If you are anything like me, you are also counting down the seconds before you can go home on break. In the meantime, though, there are projects and essays being assigned.

Break is close enough to touch, but do not fall behind while you wait for it to arrive. It is easy to push aside due dates when you have a week of rest imminent.

Some things I do to help keep organized and that allow me to stay (mostly) on top of my work are the following:

  1. Keep a bullet journal. Besides being easy to carry around and unlikely to get you called out in class for using, bullet journals are excellent at keeping your schedule organized and within reach. I have had mine for the past two semesters, and while I may forget to write assignments down, usually it helps me to keep all the future due dates and daily meetings in check.
  2. Keep a physical calendar. Google Calendar may seem like an easy out, but you cannot always rely on technology. I keep a physical, dry-erase calendar in my room, over my bed. I write down my class and work schedule to remind me, and my roommate, when I have things and where I will be. It is a nice little reminder for future events.
  3. Sticky Notes. I have way too many and they are all over my desk. If you are prone to forgetfulness, carry some around in your backpack and write things down. Then, when you get home, stick them to your desk, bathroom mirror, or someplace you spend a lot of time and will see the notes. I personally have a line of sticky notes on my hutch, above where I do homework, so I can be reminded of other deadlines coming up.
  4. Make a spreadsheet. A friend of mine recently texted me a picture of how they keep their assignments organized. It is a spreadsheet they print out and carry with them that has the name of an assignment, the course, the due date, and a series of bubbles to mark completion. With the simple setup, it is easy enough to customize, and a clever way to stay ahead.
  5. Set reminders. Personally, I only use alarms to wake me up in the mornings, but I have another friend who uses them to plan out his day. He sets alarms that remind him to go to meetings, sets up time to do homework, and tells him when he has a break. It is a good idea if you have a busy day you need to block out.

We only have a few days left before Thanksgiving break, and then only two weeks before finals after break is over. Good luck to everyone, and I hope your break is relaxing and restful!
