The Exchange Club of Lynchburg will be hosting their 60th Annual Pancake Jamboree on Friday, November 1st, from 6:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the Lynchburg City Armory, downtown.
According to the Exchange Club of Lynchburg website, the club was “chartered in 1938 by local business leaders who wanted to exchange ideas on making their community better. Its core values Family, Community and Country are held by each Exchange member with pride and commitment. Nationally founded in 1911, Exchange Club volunteer efforts have supported the needs of the country and of local communities for over a hundred years, making it the country’s oldest American service organization operating exclusively in this country.”
Their mission is to “make their communities a better place to live” and they value “family, community and country.” Some of the community initiatives that the Exchange club supports are, The Boys and Girls Club, Lynchburg Area Veterans Council, Lynchburg Fire/EMS Foundation, Operation Home, and YWCA Domestic Violence Prevention Program.
Among a variety of fundraisers to help support the Lynchburg community, the main event is the Annual Pancake Jamboree. The Exchange wrote, “contributions during the fiscal year, 2017-2018 totaled nearly $16,000,” and they “invest approximately $10,000 each year to improve the community’s less fortunate, recognize achievement of the outstanding, and promote love for our country.”
Taylor Morris, a recent graduate of the University of Lynchburg said, “I have attended a variety of different events in downtown Lynchburg, but was unaware of the Pancake Jamboree. Not only does it sound like fun…and I love pancakes, but being able to help the surrounding Lynchburg community sounds awesome.”
Kimberly Mendez, a senior, added, “I was also unaware of the event hosted by the Lynchburg Exchange. However, I think it would be really cool to see the University of Lynchburg student body attend and support their community because I very rarely see that, myself included. Plus, who does not enjoy all-you-can-eat pancakes?”
Senior Austin Keese said, “This event is something that I would not typically be interested in, but I do like pancakes, and I do like to try new things around the community, so maybe it is something that I would consider.”
Tickets for the event are seven dollars if pre-ordered, and eight dollars at the door. The price includes all-you-can-eat pancakes, coffee, milk, or soft-drinks, and sausage.
