College Life: Never Give Up

All it takes is something simple, like waking up too late, having to rush around in the morning because you forgot about an assignment that was due, not knowing where your car keys are, spilling coffee on yourself before going to work, or forgetting your notebook for one of your classes. In that one instant, a day at college can go from being one of the greatest days to being one that you just want to be done with so you can go back to sleep for the rest of the day.

To tell you the truth, from my perspective of being in college for three years and now being a senior, college is not always glorious. It is not always going to be laughter and happiness. Some days are often filled with stress and business that can be hard to keep up with, especially if you have a job(s), classes, and extracurricular activities. When the hustle and bustle of being busy one day becomes two days, or five days, or even ten days, it can feel like life is working against you. I know that there have been days for me where all I can think is, “Can I please just get a break from everything?” Coming off of midterm break, I feel that my midterm break was not even a break. It was a break away from the college campus, but it still involved me doing loads of homework and other things for classes. I keep telling myself that I have Thanksgiving and Christmas to look forward to. Once Christmas break is here, I will finally be done with my undergraduate, and off to the working world and graduate school I go.

Even though college can be filled with all sorts of emotions, both positive and negative, it is important to remember that you are here for a reason that you decided. You were meant to be here in these moments to enjoy the positives and negatives, the highs and the lows, and the ups and the downs. No matter how you feel, know that you are not alone, because many college students can experience the same feelings that you are. Although life will confront you with struggles, there are reasons behind why you have stayed and why you have not decided to quit.

College is not made for everyone, and there is nothing really wrong with that. Although college can be discouraging at times, I have to keep reminding myself that my hard work will pay off when I am doing something in my life that I truly love. I also have to remind myself that it is helping me for my future career goals. My life would not be the same without the experiences I have had and the friendships I have made while here at the University of Lynchburg.

So, I can tell you, your days will not always be perfect in college. Rarely any day is perfect, but some days are better than worse. It can be tough, but it is also made for tough people. Your dreams are waiting for you after the long days of projects, homework, and exams. Each day will not be quite like college is depicted in the movies, but that is a good thing because it is a reality check. You are living your story, not someone else’s life. Stay determined and do not ever give up yet. Trust me, something good will come out of these college experiences later in life.
