The Lynchburg College women’s softball team kicked off their 2018 season with a double header against Methodist University on Sunday, Feb. 18 at Liberty University.

The games were held at LU due to weather and the condition of the field here at LC. Nevertheless, LC defeated Methodist in both games.

The first game ended at a score of 12-4, and the second game ended 11-1. Both games were only five innings, and LC had a total of 26 hits on which 23 total runs were scored.

The Lady Hornets were led by junior Taylor Mabry, a pitcher and utility player. Over the course of both games Mabry brought in five of the runs. Mabry also got her first home run of the year in the 12-4 win. Alongside Mabry on the offensive strike for the Hornets was senior second baseman Leslie Bourgeois, who went six for six on hits and scored four runs out of those.

Defensively, the Hornets were led by senior pitcher Conner English who struck out nine of the opposing MU players and allowed only three hits within the four innings.

The Lady Hornets start their season off 2-0 in non-conference games. The next set of games for LC will be in North Carolina, on Feb. 24, against Maryville University at 2 p.m. and Averett University at 4 p.m. in the Grand Slam Triangle Classic.
