LC Theatre Department Tackles Into The Woods

Georgianna Decosmo, Guest Writer~

The Lynchburg College Theatre Department is hosting its annual spring musical on the Dillard Stage starting Feb. 22 and going through Feb. 25. This year, the LC Theatre is in production for Into the Woods. This mystical musical takes place inside the story of some of the most well-known fairy tales, taking a deeper look at what happens after happily ever after.

Many cast members arrived to school a week early after winter break, so that they could begin rehearsing for the music-heavy production. The cast focused on production and music rehearsals. On Feb. 6, a rigorous music review took place. The whole cast joined forces on the Dillard stage to review all the music in Act II of the musical.

Junior Ellee Evans, who will play the role of Little Red Riding Hood, brushed up on her lines before her entrance. She said, “this is not uncommon for actors, especially with the show opening so soon!” First- year student Matt Penelva said his “favorite part of the week are music reviews.

This show features many familiar characters in addition to Little Red Riding Hood, such as  Cinderella, Rapunzel and Jack from Jack and the Beanstalk. The musical has many catchy numbers such as “Your Fault” and the recurring title number, “Into the Woods.” There are also some beautiful ballads to be heard, including the iconic song, “Children Will Listen” sung by senior Sydnee Smith.

The musical will last for three hours, including a 15-minute intermission with concessions available in the lobby. The Thursday through Saturday performances will begin promptly at 7:30 p.m. with a 2:00 p.m. matinee on Sunday, February 25.

Tickets are available for purchase now and will also be sold prior to each performance. You can obtain your tickets from the LC Theatre Box Office, located in the Dillard Fine Arts Center. You can also purchase your tickets online through eTix.com just by searching “Lynchburg College.”
