This past weekend, Oct. 13-14, Lynchburg College’s Women’s Volleyball team attended the Alfred Tournament held at Alfred State College in New York. The lady hornets had a record of 4-0 for the weekend.
Their first two games were against Lycoming College and Alfred State. LC defeated Lycoming 3-2 in a tough match. During this match, sophomore outside hitter Jalissa Linz added a career high to her stat sheet by recording 13 kills. Alongside Linz was senior outside hitter Mesa Willis, who added 12 kills of her own. The next game against Alfred State ended 3-0 in favor of LC. Willis had the team high of 11 hits. At the end of these two games, Willis had a total of 23 kills and her fellow senior, setter Lynn Walsh, contributed 33 assists and eight aces.

The next day, LC faced off against Alfred University and Houghton College. Both of these matches ended in a 3-2 victory for LC. Walsh had a total of 62 assists overall and continued her climb up the leaderboard for career assists. She now has a total of 1,815. Walsh stated this about her ascend in the record books:
“My assists are really a testament to my teammates’ abilities. They are the ones able to terminate the ball I give them and make my situation work.”
Another career high was reached by LC from sophomore outside hitter Sydney Fink. During the game against Houghton, Fink recorded a total of 15 hits which led the team. Fink also led the team with three blocks.
Looking toward getting back into conference play, the lady hornets will face off against Eastern Mennonite University in an away game on Oct. 20 at 7 p.m.
