The new school year has brought renovations to On Common Ground located in Drysdale Student Center. Lynchburg College Dining Services has introduced a new oriental express food service: Chopsticks.

Chopsticks plans on having a more expansive menu than the previous express food service, El Si, by including appetizers as well as full course meals. Chopsticks will feature oriental foods such as Hibachi-style cooking along with stir fry cuisines as their main courses. Customers will also be able to have a choice of two different types of rice, white or fried.

“We plan on incorporating different specials throughout this semester and actually growing the menu,” Co-director of Dining Services Shaun Dearden explained.

Chopsticks had a “soft” opening on Tuesday, Aug. 22, where students were able to test out the new food service. Chopsticks will have a grand-opening event sometime next week, but students will be able to use their meal passes for Chopsticks beginning on Thursday, Aug. 24.

“The meal exchange program will start on Thursday with the first day of classes, so that will be the true test of how we actually can expedite the menu process,” said Dearden.

Dearden expects the grand opening for Chopsticks to be a special event for On Common Ground, where students will be able to taste-test the new foods that will be provided. The Starbucks brewery, also inside On Common Ground, plans to serve new cold brew and Frappuccino drinks.

The Dining Services’ hiring process is still ongoing as the new school year begins. Dearden suggests if any students are eligible for working on campus and have an interest in working for Dining Services, that they get in contact with him at dearden@lynchburg.edu.
