The Lynchburg College Women’s Lacrosse team is currently on a one-game winning streak after defeating Bridgewater College 10-5 during an away game on Saturday, April 22.

Gaining this win puts the Lady Hornets with an overall record of 8-5 and 4-3 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference.

This game followed the game between LC and Roanoke College that ended in overtime 10-9 with LC falling short in the end.

While they are currently right on track with the season they had last year, the Women’s Lacrosse team has also surpassed some of last year’s final statistics.

During the 2015-16 season, they recorded a total of 61 assists. As of right now, they have a total of 66 assists. They have also increased their shot percentage from 41.9 percent last season to 45.2 percent during this season.

During Saturday’s game, LC was led by sophomore attackman Alicia Sandoval, who scored four of the 10 goals made by the Lady Hornets.

The remaining six goals came from senior attackman Alexa Carey and midfielder junior Sarah Suter, who both scored two goals, as well as senior attackman Laura Meisner and junior attackman Sidney Gleason, who each scored one goal.

Four of the 10 goals made by LC were made possible by assists from first-year midfielder Kelsi Trevisan, junior midfielder Alison Truman, Meisner and Gleason.

On the defensive side, LC held Bridgewater to four goals in the first half and only one goal in the second half. In goal for the Lady Hornets was junior Chelsea Shultis who not only played the entire 60 minutes of the game but also captured another career high game with a total of 15 saves.

The overall statistics of the game were evenly matched between LC and Bridgewater. While the Lady Hornets had a ground ball advantage of 24-16, they had 18 turnovers, and Bridgewater had 15.

LC had a total of 29 shots compared to 23 shots by Bridgewater. There were also no penalties called for either team throughout the duration of the game.

The Lady Hornets are almost finished with conference play with only two games left to go. The first of these games is against Meredith College at home Wednesday, April 26 at 7 p.m.

The last conference game for the Women’s Lacrosse team will be at Randolph-Macon College on Saturday, April 29 at 1 p.m.
