Shooting on Rivermont Avenue Rocks Lynchburg Community
On Sept. 18, Lynchburg Police Department (LPD) received a call about a possible shooting at 421 Rivermont Ave. This is the location of the Ellington Building where the nightclub JazzE Ellington House of Blues and Multicultural Center is located.
There were four victims: Kevin J. Foxx, who is in critical condition and receiving treatment for gunshot wounds, Jamall D. Randolph and Angelena C. Garland, who are receiving treatment for non-life-threatening gunshot wounds and Shawn L. Johnson, who received a gunshot wound to the midsection of his body and was later pronounced dead at Lynchburg General Hospital, according to the LPD.
According to an article in The News & Advance, the victims were attending a tribute dedicated to a young man who previously died when they were attacked. The hours of this tribute were between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m. The event had ended, and participants were headed to their cars when the shooting occurred.
WDBJ7 spoke with Valarie Turpin, the mother of the deceased.
“He was a very, very talented and very smart young fellow,” Turpin said of her son.
In the interview, Turpin asked the community to help her seek justice for her son.
“If there is anyone out there that has anything to help the police like pictures, cell phone videos or just talk on the street, please come forward so that we can get justice done for my son,” Turpin said.
Anyone with information regarding this incident should contact LPD at (434) 455-6050.
