LYNCHBURG, Va. – The University of Lynchburg’s intramural sports are starting back up on campus as the spring season officially begins. Having options to participate in sports like basketball and pickleball, students are preparing to get together with friends and compete.
For many students, spring intramurals offer a way to connect the social atmosphere of college with the nostalgia of playing sports in high school. For Emma Cash, a sophomore competing in the basketball league, the opportunity to play again was an easy choice after having years of competitive experience.
“I have played basketball from elementary school all the way to high school, so just being able to play again is exciting in itself,” Cash said.
Cash also emphasized that the social dynamics that intramural sports offer are what make the experience worthwhile.
“Being able to go out there and compete with friends is so much fun. I will definitely enjoy just being able to spend time with them while playing a sport that I love,” she said.
Recently gaining popularity, pickleball has been added to the University of Lynchburg’s list of spring intramural sports. Sophomore Haydyn Proscia, who is competing this semester with her partner Leah DiNardo, said the sport provides a good outlet during the spring, being a student-athlete on the Women’s Volleyball team.
“I like to play at home with my friend group, and it gives me something to do in the off-season,” said Proscia.
The spring intramural season is designed to provide a competitive, high-energy, and exciting environment for students of all skill levels. Whether it’s returning to a lifelong sport or starting a new hobby to fill free time, the focus remains on building community through friendly campus competition.
