The University of Lynchburg beach volleyball team is finishing up its lengthy offseason, focusing on building the necessary skills and team cohesion for the upcoming spring 2026 season.

Head coach Nathan Jensen said the team’s training this fall emphasizes strategy and clear communication on the sand courts for their fourth season of the new program.

“We want to make sure we score at a high level, and we believe that controlling the court and communicating is how we are going to achieve that,” he said.

The Hornets are aiming high at both the team and individual levels as they steadily prepare for the spring.

“This team is full of possibilities. Many players have three years of experience here at Lynchburg as they go into their senior year. As a team, we would love to solidify our place in the top two while having a winning season against tough opponents,” said Jensen.

Nathan also added that the team’s identity centers on leaving nothing to chance by maximizing its potential every time it competes.

“We want to put our best foot forward both mentally and physically. In practice, we implement this by communicating as a team about whether or not we have met the standard,” said Jensen.

Senior beach volleyball player Virginia Zalinski said this offseason has been used to prepare the team both physically and mentally for their challenging spring schedule.

“During the offseason, we’ve practiced twice a week, usually, and always lift three times a week. My personal focus has been getting myself ready for Nationals by making sure I am prepared for the level of competition in the spring,” she said.

Zalinski said she is most ready to enjoy her final season beside her teammates in the high-stakes matchups to come.

“We have such a great dynamic, and I’m excited to enjoy my last season with them. I’d say Stevenson is the matchup I’m most looking forward to – they beat us at Nationals last year, and we are motivated to come out on top this time,” said Zalinski.

With intense offseason training and strong team chemistry, this team is preparing to enter the spring season confident and ready to compete at the highest possible level.
