In the heart of Downtown Lynchburg, a cozy diner serves all-day breakfast, hot dogs, burgers, and chili.

A Central Virginia staple, the Texas Inn has been serving Lynchburg since 1935. Since then, it has expanded to include four locations in Virginia.

The Texas Inn maintains its classic appeal with a small indoor dining area featuring bar seating that stretches the length of the building. This allows customers to watch their meals being prepared in real time. If the indoor eating area is a little too cramped for your liking (as it was for me), you can get your meal to-go and take it to the outdoor eating area or to one of the many beautiful locations in Downtown Lynchburg.

Texas Inn is famous for its burgers and breakfast, so I decided to mix the two and got a spicy burger with a side of cheesy grits. My mom got the Texas Plate, which she ordered with bacon, eggs, biscuits with gravy, and cheesy grits. We were both delighted with our decisions, and it was nice to watch my meal be cooked right in front of me. Now I’m ready to make my own dish at home someday.

Though the staff was a little divided between serving their regulars, newcomers, and the occasional DoorDash driver, they still managed to be incredibly attentive to us.

My mom and I shared some fried apples, which were wonderfully seasoned with cinnamon and sugar. The taste reminded us of childhood, even though there are a couple of decades between us.

Texas Inn truly brings together classic Southern flavor with reasonable prices. My meal cost only $9, and my mom’s meal was about $11. So, I would definitely say it’s worth a try if you’re in the area.

I was unable to try the pie or soda floats while I was there, but considering the quality of the rest of their food, I do not doubt that they taste just as great.

Texas Inn is a cornerstone of Downtown Lynchburg cuisine, even if it is named after another state.
