
LYNCHBURG, Va. – Amid the ongoing government shutdown, food benefits in Virginia will be distributed on a weekly, not monthly basis. Here is a list of local resources in the Greater Lynchburg area that provide food and clothing assistance.
Food Not Bombs – The organization sets up at Miller Park every Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and provides food, clothing and medical supplies to those in need, no questions asked. They have also partnered with multiple local businesses, including Trinity Episcopal Church and Three Roads Brewery, to provide drop-off sites for any donations from the public. Lynchburg Daily Bread – Located at 712 Clay St., the organization serves meals daily from 10:15 a.m. to 12:20 p.m. No income requirements are needed to receive food. They also accept food donations and volunteers. For more information, visit Lynchburg Daily Bread
Lighthouse Community Center – Located at 1310 Church St., the center offers free carry-out meals Monday through Friday from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. They also provide clothing and hygiene products Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more information, visit Lighthouse Community Center
Park View Community Mission – Located at 2420 Memorial Ave., Parkview offers free groceries through their Food For Families food pantry program. Visitors are able to shop once per week and a maximum of two times per month. The pantry offers fresh produce, frozen meats, dairy products and non-perishables, as well as personal hygiene products. Neighbors Helping Neighbors – Located at 151 Mitchell Bell Rd. in Madison Heights, NHN has a food pantry that provides free groceries to the community. The pantry is available by appointment only on the first, second and third Saturday of each month. Appointments to shop can be made on the Wednesday before each Saturday.
