The University of Lynchburg’s athletic programs are gearing up for Champions Week of Giving, from October 20th to 24th a fundraiser dedicated to supporting sports teams and enhancing athletic  programs and facilities.

This event plays a crucial role in funding athletic upgrades, such as new equipment and renovations, that enhance the overall student-athlete experience. Without this additional funding, many teams would struggle to achieve the improvements they need to grow.

“Each sports program has short-term goals and bigger long-term goals, and I work hand in hand with coaches and advancement people on campus to find donors to help fund those projects,” said the University’s Director of Athletics, Jon Waters. “Funding is the number one determiner of time and process for accomplishing these goals.”

Champions Week of Giving has already supported several programs, including the women’s volleyball team, which recently received locker room renovations.

“The locker upgrades we received this year enable us to stay in one room as a team when getting ready,” said senior Women’s Indoor Volleyball player Tori Williamson. “It made the space overall more open and curated for a bigger team.”

While some programs, like volleyball, are benefiting from past Champions Week of Giving events, others rely on this year’s fundraiser to help achieve their larger goals.

The University’s athletic website says this event is focused on “celebrating the history of each Lynchburg athletic program and looking ahead to the future of these programs, student-athletes, and champions,” emphasizing how support helps provide improvements that create greater opportunities for athletes.

As Champions Week of Giving approaches, sports programs are calling on fans, families, and alumni to support their teams.
