College dining options are a controversial topic at any institution; while some students find that dining selections are varied and flavorful, others find them monotonous and bland. In recent years, the University of Lynchburg has made changes to improve the dining experience for its students, including new dining options and improved dining plans to match.

“The hibachi [The Daiki Box] kind of knocked it out of the park this year,” said Logan Tapman, a student-athlete who plays for the university baseball team. “As an athlete, my favorite part is that The Caf is open pretty much all hours of the day.”

In the dining hall, a group of students rated last night’s dinner on a scale of one to ten, with scores ranging from six to nine. While opinions varied on the main dishes, they all agreed that the standout items were the brownies and the veggie egg rolls.

“The food today was better than normal,” said first-year students Cherish Hunt and Rahina Musah, both noting that the salmon was their favorite option offered in the dining hall.

Other students also praised the atmosphere within the dining hall, saying that the university has done a great job in creating a welcoming environment.

“I think the environment is chill. You can hang out with friends and meet people you’ve seen before,” said Sayon Upadhyaya, a first-year student from Nepal. Upadhyaya added that the quality is not as consistent as he would like it to be.

“There have been issues where the food has been undercooked, maybe unseasoned, and that kind of throws me off,” Upadhyaya said.

While the food at the dining hall can be hit-or-miss for some students, the dining hall is always looking for ways to improve the dining experience.
