As the fall sports season comes to an end, Lynchburg Women’s Basketball has already kicked off its winter season, playing in three matches and a scrimmage.
As the team’s senior captain this season, forward Darcy Ross is excited to work to develop connections and chemistry on the court.
“One of my goals this season for our team is to continue strengthening our on-court connection so we can establish a lock-down defense, allowing our offense to follow suit in that,” she said.

Former guard and now graduate assistant for the Hornets, Sayre Brandstatter, has enjoyed the transition from leading the team as a fifth-year student to leading the team as a coach and preparing for the season ahead.
“I’ve been growing as a coach and a leader by observing day by day with Coach Nichols and Coach Whitney. It’s mostly the same routine as last year, so I am just trying to be a role model for the team and especially for the freshmen,” said Brandstatter.

This being her third year on the team, junior guard Brooke Cason expands on how appreciated the pre-season has been in building on what the team has built over the past two years and her hopes for it translating into gameplay.
“Pre-season is really focused on conditioning so that when practices start we are able to focus more on the basketball aspect. This also allows us to focus more on our next opponent,” said Cason.
With a full season ahead, it will be interesting to see how the team’s preparation and hopes align with their gameplay as ODAC matches begin on Saturday.
